Bobby G. English, JR., MSW
Director, Optimum Personal Care
With more than 20 years experience as the founder / owner / operator of Optimum Personal Care, and more than 10 years experience as a buyer and analyst for Shell Oil Company, Bobby English brings a broad level of knowledge and a truly unique perspective to the assisted living industry.
Bobby English founded Optimum Personal Care in honor of his late Aunt Gladys. She was an elderly family friend that Bobby became very close to as he earned his degree at Texas Southern University. In between classes and studying, he spent his days in her company. English has fond memories of the special annual trips he made to her home from New Orleans to put up her Christmas tree; it was their cherished tradition for many years. English’s special bond with Aunt Gladys helped him discover his affinity for the elderly and inspired his pursuit of a MSW in Gerontology, sparking the idea for providing quality, personalized senior care that is affordable for families. Later, Aunt Gladys bestowed resources to English that became the startup capital to Optimum Personal Care’s first location in Missouri City, Texas. To this day, a picture of Aunt Gladys hangs in Bobby English office, still inspiring him daily as he supports families in transition and cares for their loved ones as he would his own.
Bobby English received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing in 1993 from Texas Southern University. He began his evolving career with Shell Oil Company in Houston where he worked for 10 years as a Materials Analyst, Procurement Analyst, Senior Systems Analyst, and Associate Buyer.
Eventually, he followed his passion for Social Work – generated by his Godmother’s position as Dean of Social Work at USC – and received his Masters of Social Work with a concentration in Gerontology in 1995 from The University of Houston. Upon graduating the second time around, he left Shell and opened Optimum Personal Care as his first licensed assisted living community in 1995. English took a considerable leap of faith when he departed from his position at Shell to found Optimum Personal Care, but so deep was his belief in this calling that he, “never had a fear that it wouldn’t happen.” In 1998, he designed and built his first home on Optimum Personal Care’s current three-acre location in Missouri City. The second home on the current property opened in 2003. More recently, a second Optimum Personal Care location has opened in Sugar Land in 2015.
Bobby English sat on the Houston Gerontological Society board and participated in Sigma Phi Omega Professional Society (in Gerontology), Preventive Healthcare Outreach, and Sheltering Arms of Houston. In addition, he has participated in numerous community service events and projects for Houston Alzheimer’s Association, The Salvation Army, Fifth Ward Multi-Purpose Community Center, Sheltering Arms, Junior Achievement, and Food for Seniors, among others.
Caregivers
At Optimum Personal Care, we have a compassionate team of dedicated and experienced caregivers on staff 24-hours a day to help your loved one with the daily tasks they can no longer achieve on their own. Our staff strives to connect with residents through trust, empathy and respect. We value the individual.
In addition, our personal care providers know how to help your loved one preserve a sense of independence, dignity, and well-being. We are personally committed to helping each of our residents embrace and flourish in this new phase of life.
Our team is made up of skilled professionals including nurse’s aides, attendants, and long-term care providers – all of whom have passed a rigorous background check. In addition, we have an extremely high staff retention rate – in fact, it is well above the average for senior assisted living communities. For your loved one, this means familiarity and continuity with the caregivers and a sense of comfort you just won’t find elsewhere.
In addition, each member of our staff brings a wealth of training and experience, with an average of 15 years in assisted living and personal care Home. We firmly believe in the value of continuing education, and the Optimum Personal Care staff receives well above the minimum annual CE training requirements. For you and your loved one, this translates to a staff that is extremely knowledgeable on the current standards and best practices in personal care.
With a low resident-to-staff ratio daily, along with around-the-clock “awake” care, your loved one is certain to receive a greater level of individualized care than is available in most senior residential facilities. A physician, nurse practitioner, or PA performs weekly visits and medical check-ups.
Through Medicare, we also have healthcare partners that provide additional services such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy, as well as medical services such as insulin delivery, catheter assistance, and more.
Working with each resident’s physician, our network of home healthcare providers ensures your loved one receives a continuum of care throughout their time with us. In addition, our Executive Director’s background in Social Work and Gerontology means we are able to effectively coordinate and oversee the specific services your loved one needs.
